Money doesn't grow on trees...sure wish it did!
In these trying times of making each dollar stretch as far as possible we can all use tips. How can our family trim the money we spend each month on various things? Almost every store in our valley is having great sales at this time of the year. Sadly for many they are going of business sales and the prices are fantastic if they have an item you need or want. This is the perfect time to pick up any holiday decorations or gifts at 75% off at many stores. Some are even down to 90% and you can’t beat that! If you are clothes shopping, the department stores are already changing into the new season and there are dramatic markdowns available. Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls are hit and miss for a variety of clothing, purses, shoes etc. but you can sure get the deals. Never pay regular price at Kohl’s unless it is a MUST have item because almost everything goes on sale fairly often and they do have a good selection to choose from.
If you enjoy the movies, check to see if your employer or financial institution offers discount passes to the theatres in our valley. If not consider going earlier in the day when the price is lower.
Always check the newspaper or online for coupons. There are many websites that offer manufactures discounts. I did a search for “coupons” and I was truly amazed at how many discounts and coupons are available. There are discounts and coupons for just about any and everything you might ever desire to buy. I only went to the sites that offered free coupons, no membership or commitments and again there are a lot of this type out there.
The grocery stores are all fighting for our business and if you watch their ads you will save money. I do not go store to store; I do not have the time or energy for that. But I have been surprised at how much money I have been able to save in the past couple of months by shopping smarter and using coupons on items I would normally buy anyway. The little bit of extra time spent is time well spent.
Many of the local restaurants are offering specials during the week. Logan's Roadhouse is a great example of that with the 2 Full Meals for $13.99, Monday -Wednesday. The choice of meals is broad and the food is good and it is filling. The kids can also eat for $2.99. Pretty affordable for a family treat! Watch for restaurant specials and coupons, you will save money.
Medicine is another monthly expense many people face. Fry’s is one of many offering selected prescriptions for a $4.00 co-pay. The list of medicine that qualifies for this discount is actually quite long. This can be a huge savings for many, check it out.
